about us

Near Earth is all about connection - between feet and shoes, between runners and the earth, and between great understated design and performance that doesn’t come at the expense of the environment. We’re really into running and its people, into good design that’s not in your face and into creating products that are environmentally friendly.

We are also inherent optimists (at least when we're not looking at the list of current near earth objects) 😱 via NASA

Near Earth was founded from a personal love for running and one very basic observation: that the recent and impressive evolution of running shoes has not been matched by what we feel is its most important counterpart — the running sock.

The sock is the connection between the foot and the shoe, and while an entire industry obsesses over the right kind of shoe - new uppers, thicknesses and forms -, no one seems to spend much time exploring how socks respond to these choices.

Christian Brecheis, Founder

As a photographer, Christian was drawn to the wide spectrum of sports culture that running has to offer. What inspires him on his personal running journey are the athletes who participate out of a deep love for the sport, pushing their own boundaries while never losing sight of the intrinsic joy running provides. Although one day, suddenly the wheels can come off, on another day you'll achieve something incredible you weren't sure you had in you. No wonder a tale of chaos and balance served as the inspiration for the name Near Earth.

David Benedek, Co-Founder

Former professional snowboarder turned designer, David gets excited when form follows function or when people are interested rather than interesting. An incredibly slow runner with a personal disdain for performance tracking he thoroughly enjoys the meditative aspect and simplicity of running.

Even though it feels like a long time to us, the reality is that we're still at the very beginning of our journey. If you're interested in working with us, be it as distributor, producer or supplier feel free to reach out anytime.
